With a splashy new ad that debuted during Super Bowl XLV this past weekend, Volkswagen has brought us one step closer to the all-new 2012 New Beetle. The commercial followed a black beetle with racing stripes -- of the insect variety -- zipping through a forest, and ending with the outline of the newest New Beetle being traced around our buggy friend.
While we may not have any official photos yet of the 2012 New Beetle, we do have some of the car's vital stats already. Volkwagen's bubble-shaped coupe will definitely have at least one turbocharged powerplant, as indicated by VW's consumer site, and it has already been confirmed that we will see a turbocharged mill underneath the hood of the coupe in the form of a 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4. Also confirmed for the new New Beetle is a 2.0-liter I-4, no word yet on whether or not the 2.5-liter I-5 will carry over. All engines will be mated to either a six-speed manual or VW's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
